The use of directional boring is extremely
effective in preserving trees. This telephone company cable was
placed along the main entrance to the Sanctuary. If an open trench
would have been used, a 20' by 700' swath of trees would have
been destroyed. |

A smaller boring rig is shown placing
a cable TV line under a live oak tree. (not shown) |

The drainage swale was originally
designed to continue past the live oak in the background, which
would have destroyed the tree. Notice instead that a culvert
was placed just before the tree and the drainage was diverted
across the street.
Also note the smaller water oak which did experience severe root
damage although did survive. Younger trees have a much better
survival rate and are often not removed even within very close
proximity of constuction. |
